BIOGRAPHY
Dion Matta, first generation of Italien decent, was born in 1969, in Montréal, Canada.
He currently lives in Canada, and works in the financial services industry.
Influences
Inspired by Jackson Pollock's paintings in 2002,
Dion Matta takes up a leasurely interest in learning traditional principles
and techniques of oil painting, under
the tutelage of two community painters - Anne Drouin and André Van
Melle.
Matta develops a style that is similar to impressionnist painters of the 19th century: rich colors, texture and movement, using brush/spatula strokes.
He admires impressionnist and expressionnist artists, namely Corot, Cézanne, Gauguin, Monet and Van Gogh, and relates to Canadian and Québec painters, like Stanley Cosgrove, Rousseau and Jean-Paul Riopelle.
Favorite
subjects
A common theme that can be seen in his paintings is the depiction of
either rock surfaces or water subjects.
Dion Matta is inspired by subject matter that contain elements of continuity - roads, lakes, man made structures.
Calm or moving, water is presented in various tones of blue. His interpretation of beauty is depicted in natural landscape scenaries around the world, often of Italy and France.
Vision
Matta's
vision is to show his audience that painting is a form of communication
which relates people to places, at specific times. His goal is to connect the human collective sharing the same ideologies and contributing to the Technological Singularity.
As a hobby, Dion Matta is continuously refining his art through reading on techniques, painters and trends.
